Years and Years

Will Remains Writing for December 2025

Greetings from the 12th Floor and Happy New Year to all.

I’m still feeling holiday fatigued and frankly a bit lazy after taking some time away from the job that pays. Somehow I had more time accrued than I calculated and we are a use-it-or-lose-it enterprise, so I enjoyed a few long weekends in between Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. I won’t know how to behave come Monday when the clock resets to zero.

I don’t have anything pithy to add right now. I reflected a bit more on 2025 on my blog (links below). 2025 didn’t go exactly as planned, but overall, the surprises were good ones.

Monthly Posts
The end of a calendar year is a good time for reflection. During the month, I looked back on the songs that captured my moods, my writing successes and near-misses, and advice on mitigating the fear of missing out.

A Parting Song
At the year ends, I find I didn’t accomplish everything I set out to do last January, but I also had some big unexpected successes. My life isn’t anything like the life I envisioned for myself at this age when I was a kid, but I also had some detours and fun along the way. It would be easy to look back and try to game what I could or should have done to keep myself on a more direct path, but I’m here now and doing my best to enjoy the journey. I might not ever reach the places I want to go, but this year was pretty good, and isn’t that all we can ask?

And I'm not that fast, I'm not finished last
But I keep making time for laughter
'Cause if I can't find joy in this journey I'm on
Well, then I might be doing something wrong

'Cause it could take years and years and years and years
So eventually, I hope I've done a thing or two
And if it takes years and years and years and years
Well, then I better keep on going 'til it all comes true
